Legal Counsel Large Projects

What's the role?

This position as Legal Counsel for Hilti’s Large Projects business is a full-spectrum legal & compliance position, which incorporates project and contractual topics for the following sectors: energy, automotive, industrial, (civil) construction, data centers, and oil & gas/offshore wind sectors. In this role, you act as a subject matter expert for Large Projects, including the consolidation of advice on compliance, export controls, direct sourcing, tax, or insurance matters.

The role is based in our office in the Netherlands in Berkel, near Rotterdam, functionally reporting to the Head of Legal for Large Projects located in Schaan, Liechtenstein (Hilti Headquarters).

This full-time position is available as soon as possible.

What does the role involve?

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Assist and support different entities in all legal and compliance matters, including the roll-out of global contracting concepts (sales, service, software and sourcing) and regionalization of contracts according to local law requirements
  • Working closely with the global Head of Legal for Large Projects in supporting the regions on all Large Projects legal matters, including advisory, review/mark-up of commercial or project contractual terms and conditions, negotiation of customer contracts for Hilti Nederland, support negotiation of customer contracts for other legal entities, internal regional/global escalation or approval processes, all in accordance with group policies and procedures.
  • Assisting various legal entities with sale transaction, e.g. advise on deal structure, working closely with the Bid & Proposals function in pre-contract signing activities (e.g. NDAs, processing of RFPs/RFQs, trade compliance, supplier questionnaire etc.), with the Project Management Office on project execution activities (e.g. correspondences/notices, interface with supplier contract matters, product liability/warranty documentation, claims management, settlement of disputes etc.), including where appropriate management of outside counsel.
  • Assist our Large Projects policy formation, roll-out/implementation and training – to the global Hilti legal & compliance and commercial personnel.
  • Collaborating with regional Legal Counsels in on-the-job training, dissemination of contracting legal skills/know-how, experience sharing or exchange in order to build-up legal skills (primarily in review/negotiation of sales T&Cs.

What you need is:

  • Educational background: LL.B from a reputable university. LL.M is advantageous.
  • Multiple years’ experience in a top-tier law firm and as an in-house legal counsel in a multinational company. Jurisdiction in the EU, USA, or UK or other comparable Legal systems.
  • Very strong legal and/or compliance skills and knowledge with a proven track record of handling complex legal matters (contracts, projects, and negotiations).
  • Experience in project contracting (review, and negotiation of legal/commercial contracts) in the energy, civil/commercial infrastructure construction, oil and gas/offshore wind (either in a project owner/end user, EPC and/or as a supplier interacting with such customers).
  • Languages: Fluent in English. An additional European or global language is highly advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (mainly within the EU) up to 5 weeks per year, and occasionally on short notice.
