The purpose of the General Ledger (GL) Accountant is to ensure that all financial bookings are consistent, accurate, and recorded timely according to group guidelines. This role involves advising and training the business partners on accounting guidelines and new regulations (e.g. IFRS) within the Group’s established Internal Control System (ICS). The accountant participates in special management projects as needed. General Ledger (GL) accountants generally have responsibilities for:
- End-to-end closing of one (1) small to medium-sized entity plus one regionally relevant topic (fixed assets, intercompany, etc.)
- End-to-end closing of two (2) small to medium-sized entities
- Partial closing of one (1) large to very large entity
What You'll do
- Perform compliant GL processes by executing and coordinating the month- and year-end close activities for assigned Market Organization(s), including establishing timelines, cascading calendars, maintenance of GL ledgers through journal entry postings, and balance sheet and Profit & Loss fluctuation analyses presented during any month end close review calls.
- Work according to global standards, deadlines, and processes in close collaboration with our regional and global accounting and consolidation teams.
- Review and monitor balance sheet accounts via monthly reconciliations, recognizing when to post accurate accruals or provisions, and when to amortize prepayments.
- Ensure that accounting records for assigned Market Organization(s) are kept in accordance with internal accounting standards (Hilti Finance Manual), as well as legal requirements and deadlines.
- Be a functional expert and show consistent knowledge in ERP system (SAP) and accounting tools (e.g. Blackline) used in the GL processes.
- Execute proper internal controls for assigned Market Organization(s) within the Shared Service Center, ensuring consistent filing and ensuring compliance with group requirements and deadlines.
- Understand the GL key performance indicators (KPIs), looking continuously for areas of improvement.
- Be a sparring partner for Finance Business Partners (FBPs) by linking business decisions to accounting processes and by delivering and improving agreed GL services to the entities in scope.
- Influence finance and non-finance stakeholders and successfully communicate with them regarding GL topics.
- Support global or local accounting projects and tool implementations for the GL Accounting team and entities in scope.
- Perform all GL Accounting functions related to period close, including but not limited to posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, variance analysis, and preparing and presenting management reports, for assigned Market Organization(s).
- Coordinate requests from internal and external auditors for assigned Market Organization(s) and assist with annual internal and external audits by preparing assigned schedules, providing supporting documentation, and meeting with auditors as needed.
- Consistently challenge the status quo, identifying areas to improve, and act as a Change Agent in the Shared Service Center.
- Identify opportunities for and drive continuous process improvement for efficiency gains, working with peers and cross-functional teams to implement improvements.
- Support cross-functional internal control improvements between teams within the Shared Service Center.

What You’ll Bring

- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business or equivalent experience, required
- Minimum two (2) years’ financial accounting and/or financial analysis experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred
- Strong communication (verbal, written) skills
- Strong computer skills including but not limited to MS Office Suite and SAP ERP
- Strong problem solving, organizational, time management skills and attention to detail
- Desire to work in collaboration with highly diverse teams
- Analytically and conceptually savvy with strong functional expertise in Accounting and Finance
- Normal office conditions
- Up to 10% domestic/international travel, required
- Flexibility for work on some Holidays, required
