Motherhood, Career, and the Power of Support

Before becoming a mom, I had already begun building my career in marketing at Hilti – growing my skills, finding my place on the team, and leaning into work that challenged and excited me. I joined the organization as a Communications Coordinator, focusing on telling our Hilti story through digital customer-facing touchpoints. I loved what I was doing, but like many women, I wondered what it would look like to one day balance a career I cared about with motherhood.
Navigating Career Growth Before and After Motherhood
In 2022, I found out I was pregnant with my first child. My husband and I were overjoyed stepping into this new chapter, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have questions in the back of my mind: How will I balance both? Can I really do it all?
What I quickly learned is that I didn’t have to figure it out alone.
While that season of life was incredibly meaningful, it wasn’t easy. My pregnancy came with complications and challenges, but one thing I never had to worry about was work. I still remember my HR business partner telling me, “The most important thing is your health and your son’s health.” That moment stuck with me. It wasn’t just something they said, it was something I felt in every interaction.
Returning from Maternity Leave: Finding My Rhythm as a Working Mom
When my maternity leave ended, I was both excited and nervous to return. Like many new moms, I was navigating a completely new identity – learning how to care for my son while also stepping back into my role at work. There were hard days. Moments where I questioned if I was doing enough in either space.
But what made the difference was the support around me. My team met me with patience, flexibility, and understanding. That transition period became a time of growth, where I started to find my rhythm as a working mom, one day at a time. My career continued to grow, and I got promoted to a new role as Hilti’s social media specialist seven months after returning to work. This reminded me that I was capable of not only growing at home as a new mom, but in an area of work I was passionate about.
This past year, we welcomed our second child. And while the joy of a new baby never changes, something else happened this time: I felt a deep sense of confidence and peace. I knew what to expect, not just from motherhood, but from Hilti. I knew I would be supported through the unpredictable moments, the sick days, and the transition back to work. I knew I would be encouraged to take the time I needed to fully step away and be present in those early newborn days and that when I returned, I wouldn’t have to start from scratch. That kind of trust allows you to truly be in the moment, both at home and at work.

The Power of Support: Thriving at Work and at Home
Looking back, I can confidently say that being a working mom isn’t about “doing it all” perfectly – it’s about having the right support system that makes it possible.
As I reflect on being a mom of two while working full-time, three things stand out:
- A strong support system is everything.
Not just family and friends, but an employer who genuinely has your back. - Motherhood isn’t always glamorous – and that’s okay.
There are hard days, and asking for help matters. Being part of a workplace that values your physical and mental well-being, through both resources and culture, makes balancing it all feel possible. - Being a mom is the most meaningful title I’ve ever earned.
And working for an organization that recognizes and supports that makes all the difference.
This Mother’s Day, I’m celebrating the moms who do it all – early mornings, long days, and meaningful impact at home and at work.
Cheers to all of us.
