What's the role?

Metallography analyses are key activities in the support of our research projects and in the development of our products. As part of a multi-disciplinary international team you will be responsible for the technical tasks around the metallography investigations and failure analyses.

Duration of the internship: 6- 12 moths, flexible starting date.

Who is Hilti?

If you’re new to the industry, you might not have heard of us. We provide leading-edge tools, technologies, software and services for the global construction sector. We have a proud heritage, built over 75 years, and a worldwide reputation for pioneering products and exceptional service.

With 30,000 people in more than 120 countries, which we’re looking to expand, we’re a great place for you to show us your worth, step up to new challenges and grow your career.

What does the role involve?

This is a great opportunity to support the development of all the Hilti products, from tools to consumables, with your experience in metallography. As an intern in our metallography laboratory you will work closely with our material experts, project managers and research engineers, supporting them with your work on metallography and root cause analysis in failure investigations. You will be responsible for material investigations (e.g. sample preparation, metallography tests, and results documentation). You will be the person who will do precise work to support research and technical projects. Effective technical communication as well as the comprehensible documentation of your work in English is a key factor in your job. We are looking for a self-responsible intern who takes his/her share of responsibility in maintaining our metallography lab and enjoys working in an international team.

CAREER - We want your thirst to learn, courage to challenge and desire to improve things, including yourself.

What do we offer?

We’ll give you the tools you need to excel in your internship, including one-to-one coaching. You’ll enjoy a rare combination of autonomy and camaraderie, as you’ll manage your own project while being part of a friendly team.

You’ll not just be another pair of hands but a fully integrated team member with lots of self-responsibility. From there, we’ll trust you to do whatever it takes to deliver outstanding results. Go the extra mile and we’ll reward you with strategic development discussions and career opportunities.

We’ll support you even before you start with us through relocation and integration support. With the international interns community at Hilti you’ll never be bored. Further, the snow-draped mountains, crystal-clear lakes and marvelous landscapes in the Happy Valley invite for lots of outdoor activities.

What you need is:

  • Bachelor or Master student in material science.
  • Experience in working in a metallography laboratory (prepared test specimens, fractography-microscopy techniques (stereo and optical microscopes), mechanical testing).
  • Being open to new ideas and good predisposition to work in an international team.

Why should you apply?

You will have a key role in the development of a highly innovative, promising technology within our R&D team that allows you to contribute and further develop both, your engineering expertise and your interpersonal skills.

We take our time to get to know you. As part of your recruitment process, you’ll get to talk to your internship coach as well as your HR Manager who both can answer some of your burning questions.

Hilti is an equal opportunity employer.
