Data Scientist

What's the role?

In the role of a Data Scientist, you will collaborate with our Market & Data Engineers on advanced statistical modelling. Hilti has a tremendous wealth of external and internal data. We are using it to bring our customer and business facing use cases to another level as well as develop advanced tools and services based on tool data. The Analytics team is highly technical and at the same time at the core of Hilti’s software business

Construction Software Business Unit span across several locations including Kaufering (Germany), Schaan (Liechtenstein), Pune (India) & Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). All locations have highly competent teams who work very closely together. Hilti`s BU CSW Software Development team is known for their focus on customer facing software solution which helps customer to automate their process in construction.

What does the role involve?

In this position, you will be responsible for designing experiments, testing hypotheses, and developing and programming models. You will operate within agile, iterative processes, conducting advanced data analysis and implementing highly complex statistical algorithms. Additionally, you will develop experimental design approaches to validate findings or test hypotheses.

As a Data Scientist, you will lead discovery processes to identify business opportunities and yield new insights. Collaborating closely with business analysts, you will model and frame business scenarios that have significant impact on critical decisions and business processes.


Your responsibilities will also include identifying available and relevant data, including internal and external sources, structured and unstructured data, and utilizing emerging data collection methods such as smart meters, connected tool information, or social media. Working with global subject matter experts, you will select the most pertinent sources of information and make strategic recommendations on data collection, integration, and retention requirements, aligning them with business needs and best practices.


You will develop usage and access control policies and systems in collaboration with data stewards, contributing to continuous improvement processes that enhance data quality for specific use cases. Presenting your findings in easily understandable terms for business stakeholders, you will address results that challenge common beliefs, if necessary, and engage with both business subject matter experts and organizational leadership.

What you need is:


  • Master's or PhD in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field.
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience in quantitative and qualitative research and analytics.
  • Extensive expertise in statistical techniques and a proven track record of applying machine learning algorithms.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python, R and Java.
  • Strong data engineering skills in SQL, enabling effective collaboration with data engineers.
  • Fundamental knowledge of software engineering principles, including software architecture, version control systems, and continuous integration software.
  • Proficient in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, forecasting/predictive analytics, multivariate testing, and optimization algorithms.
  • Capable of devising solutions for loosely defined business problems through pattern detection across potentially large datasets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
