Last week the Irving Convention Center was overtaken by a sea of red and buzzing with the energy of hundreds of like-minded leaders eager to usher in a new year with commitment to a common purpose: making construction better.

Hilti North America’s Annual Sales Meeting is just that – an opportunity for multiple levels of sales leadership across the United States and Canada to connect to a common purpose and the strategy to achieve our goals, which requires commitment from all.

I was fortunate to join the talent acquisition management team as we sought to reach Hilti’s leaders with an exciting new topic, the activation of our global employer value proposition (EVP). An employer value proposition is the unique value a company offers our employees in return for their skills, experience and commitment to our company. In other words, it’s our promise of what you can expect from Hilti in return for that which you give as a member of our team.

Patrick Vaughan, university recruitment manager, takes first shift in the 'Made Real at Hilti' booth, where we explained the new EVP and shared materials with North American sales leaders.

Annual Sales Meeting was the first introduction many of our leaders received to the new EVP, so we wanted to make it count. Our booth (pictured above) featured our new EVP statements and imagery, along with a video and an expression of the various elements expressed in our EVP. Laptop clings and handouts with downloadable materials rounded out the offering, and we encouraged leaders to take advantage of complementary LinkedIn profile photos.

Hilti’s new employer value proposition was welcomed with great positivity from our North American sales leadership, and we look forward to sharing it next with our field-based team members via our divisional waves. Thank you to talent attraction manager, Max Darby for driving the activation of our EVP in North America, and to the whole talent acquisition management team for their commitment in sharing it.

While we look forward to sharing our EVP externally, it is meant to be a true expression of our team members’ experiences, and seeing how connected our colleagues felt was truly inspiring.

Made Real at Hilti: Exploring Our EVP

Hilti’s new employer value proposition will be expressed through our new employer brand concept, Made Real at Hilti.

Made Real at Hilti showcases our employer brand through the moments, opportunities and achievements our team members make real every day. It reflects what we bring to life together and what we accomplish and create from each other, our customers, and our communities.

Our team members have a breadth of experiences and passions that determine what Hilti has Made Real for them, which can be expressed in a variety of ways. However, there are three key pillars that we will focus on as we further activate our EVP:

  1. Making Construction Better: Hilti is best positioned to make construction better, and you can too. This is all about our purpose and the meaningful impact we make on the worldwide construction industry through innovative solutions. If you’re committed to this purpose and interested in being the best partner for our customers, you can make a difference in an industry that touches all lives. You can do enriching work that challenges you and have the confidence of working for an industry market leader.
  2. Creating Your Future: Your career is enabled by your ability to explore your own path and become who you want to be. At Hilti, every team member has the opportunity to grow. If you’re curious to discover possible paths and committed to a culture of learning and mentorship, we will offer the best tools and training and will provide meaningful opportunities that ensure growth. We’ll also strive to provide a secure work environment that allows you to create the best life for yourself.
  3. Driving Impact Together: Success is built on collaboration, and this is a reminder of the power of teamwork – working together to deliver results, celebrating wins, and tackle challenges head-on. If you’re a passionate problem-solver and have a desire for excellence, we’ll give you the empowerment and ownership to make things happen. We’ll be transparent on performance and will provide opportunities to leverage your strengths – all within the caring, open and inclusive team we’re known for worldwide.

An EVP Made Real: Developing a Value Proposition

Hilti’s Employer Value Proposition was developed over many months with great care and consideration for our team members, leaders, customers, and potential applicants. While it’s desirable for an EVP to appeal to candidates, it’s even more important that it is true. An EVP should reflect the true experiences of team members – their experiences, aspirations, and the promises that have been kept to them.

Development of the EVP was led by Hilti’s global head of employer brand, Monica Suffal. Over 12 months, Monica – in partnership with an external agency, Hilti’s brand department and other team members from around the world – held focus groups and workshops meant to deepen our understanding of the Hilti team member experience of the past, present, and future. Multiple iterations of the EVP were evaluated and adjusted, until the “just right” current version was created.

Speaking to the experience of creating the EVP, Monica says, “Developing our new employer value proposition was a journey that truly brought our people together. We engaged team members from all levels and corners of our global organization through interviews, surveys, and focus groups, ensuring their voices shaped every step of the process. It was about capturing the real, day-to-day experiences of working at Hilti—what makes it special, challenging, and rewarding.”

“We didn’t stop there. To ensure our EVP resonates externally, we conducted an employer brand health check and a talent survey to understand how Hilti is perceived and what matters most to candidates in a workplace. The result is something we’re incredibly proud of: an EVP that’s authentic, relevant, and truly reflects who we are as a company and what we offer to those who join us.”

Launching the EVP was a team effort - teamwork made real at Hilti!
