DevOps Engineer

What's the role?

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for managing the full DevOps lifecycle, including system operations, monitoring, deployment automation, and infrastructure as code (IaC). This role ensures the availability, performance, scalability, and security of cloud and on-premises systems. The ideal candidate is skilled in AWS technologies, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and security best practices. They will collaborate with development teams to optimize infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, and drive operational excellence.

What You'll do

  • System Deployment and Operations:
    • Automate, deploy, monitor, and maintain cloud-based and on-premise systems, focusing on availability, performance, and scalability.
    • Build and maintain AWS infrastructure using services such as EC2, RDS, ELB, S3, CloudFormation, Lambda, EKS, and IAM.
    • Utilise Terraform and CloudFormation to provision and manage infrastructure as code.
  • Continuous Integration and Tooling:
    • Design and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, integrating with development workflows for automated builds, tests, and deployments.
    • Collaborate with development teams to optimise build systems and containerisation workflows using Docker.
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
    • Implement and maintain monitoring solutions, including Datadog, to track system health, performance, and metrics.
    • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and application issues to ensure reliability and minimal downtime.
  • Process Improvement and Documentation:
    • Recommend and implement improvements to system architecture and operational processes, emphasising scalability and efficiency.
    • Maintain up-to-date documentation, including network diagrams, component architecture, and DevOps workflows, and share best practices with the team.
  • Collaboration and Security:
    • Work with the IT Security team to ensure compliance with security standards and successful completion of audits and penetration tests.
    • Promote and implement best-in-class cloud security practices to safeguard critical systems.

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
    • At least 7 years of hands-on DevOps experience.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Advanced knowledge of AWS services, including EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFormation, EKS, Lambda, and IAM.
    • Proficiency with Terraform and CloudFormation for infrastructure as code (IaC).
    • Experience with GitLab CI/CD for building and managing CI/CD pipelines.
    • Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Bash, Python) and containerisation tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
    • Expertise in monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog) for system health and performance tracking.
    • Experience with Node.js, Golang, or Java is appreciated.
    • Strong experience with Kubernetes clusters is required.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
