Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) Manager

Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) Manager – Make Construction Better!

At Hilti Ireland, we’re growing fast—and we’re proud of it! From celebrating internal promotions to launching cutting-edge innovations, we’re looking for an experienced EHSS Manager to lead and strengthen our sustainability, environmental compliance, and health & safety agenda across Ireland.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive, inclusive, and high-performing organisation where your ideas and contributions truly matter.

This is a standalone management-level individual contributor role, requiring a highly motivated professional who can build processes, shape strategy, influence stakeholders, and drive meaningful change across the business. You will act as the subject matter expert on sustainability and health & safety, partnering closely with leadership teams, external stakeholders, customers, and global counterparts to ensure compliance, promote best practice, and support business growth.

What You'll do

1. Environment & Sustainability

  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001).
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and maintain relevant environmental policies, registers, and governance frameworks.
  • Manage environmental reporting requirements, including carbon emissions and sustainability data submissions.
  • Oversee recycling, waste management, battery compliance, WEEE obligations, and associated regulatory requirements.
  • Drive the local sustainability roadmap and support the implementation of global sustainability initiatives.
  • Act as the business sustainability expert, supporting customer sustainability requests, supply chain reporting, and sustainability-related presentations.
  • Partner with hub and global sustainability teams to align local activities with wider business objectives.
  • Monitor emerging sustainability trends, regulatory developments, and industry best practices within Ireland.
  • Coordinate employee community and environmental initiatives.

2. Health & Safety
  • Lead the organisation's health and safety programme, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain the health and safety management system, policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Conduct risk assessments and maintain risk registers, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and monitored.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, identifying root causes and driving preventative measures.
  • Deliver health and safety training, awareness campaigns, and onboarding programmes.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including fire safety, first aid, and emergency response planning.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and management reviews to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Manage contractor and visitor safety processes, ensuring compliance with site safety standards.
  • Support occupational health, wellbeing, and ergonomic initiatives.
  • Analyse safety performance metrics and lead behavioural safety and continuous improvement initiatives.

3. Leadership & Stakeholder Management
  • Influence key stakeholders across all levels of the organisation to drive environmental and safety excellence.
  • Build and implement scalable processes, systems, and governance structures from the ground up.
  • Provide expert guidance to leadership teams on sustainability, environmental compliance, and health & safety matters.
  • Prepare reports, insights, and recommendations for senior management and business leaders.
  • Represent the organisation at relevant industry forums, sustainability networks, and regulatory engagements.

What makes this role special?
  • Autonomy & Flexibility: Ability to build processes from scratch, shape strategy, influence stakeholders, and drive meaningful change across the business — with the support of a close-knit regional team.
  • Purpose-Driven Work: You’ll lead and strengthen our sustainability, environmental compliance, and health & safety agenda across Ireland
  • Inclusive Culture: We celebrate different perspectives and backgrounds. You’ll be joining a team where your voice is heard and valued.
  • Career Growth: Over 80% of our roles are filled internally. We invest in your development from day one.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Customer-focused with strong communication skills
  • Curious and eager to learn—you enjoy solving problems, implement processes and asking the right questions
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, comfortable working in varied environments
  • Collaborative, with a team-first mindset
  • Ambitious, whether you’re growing in your current role or aiming for leadership
  • Values - you stand for the values of courage, team spirit, commitment and integrity.

  • Experience working with ISO management systems, ideally ISO 14001.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and driving cross-functional initiatives.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Exceptional influencing and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and drive initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable balancing operational delivery with long-term planning.
