Intern - Development Engineer - Timber Connections (m/f/x)

What's the role?

Your task is to actively participate in the development and testing of prototypes for novel methods and products related to wood building structures and structural connectors. Existing concepts need to be evaluated and refined, followed by a proof-of-concept under laboratory and job-site conditions. This is an interdisciplinary technology task with focus on hands-on mentality and the spirit to think outside the box.

Start date is flexible to the student's availability, duration for 6-12 months

What does the role involve?

As intern in our team, you’ll be part of an interdisciplinary development & marketing team working on the challenges of tomorrow. You’ll work closely with our experts on developing connectors for wood structures and other innovative solutions related to the wood construction industry. Following the development process from idea to implementation.

In your key responsibilities, you will significantly contribute to develop, test and optimize concepts for new products. This includes all phases from design to final validation. You will use your hands-on mentality to bring visions to life including interdisciplinary engineering activities, e.g. ideation for solutions, mechanical design, structural calculations and interdependencies with the connections, mechanical laboratory work, data processing and analysis, enhancing usability, etc.

What you need is:

  • Enrollment for the whole internship period in a Bachelor/Master’s program in civil engineering/structural engineering or mechanical engineering, ideally with the focus in structural design in wood construction.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in the field of wood construction
  • Willingness and creativity in finding solutions for interdisciplinary technical challenges
  • Passion for innovation and product development
  • A proactive approach and self-reliant personality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with excellent English skills (German skills advantageous)
