Site Reliability Engineer

What's the role?

The Site Reliability Engineer will be part of a committed and international team within an agile work environment strongly contribute to Hilt’s software portfolio. The Site Reliability Engineer is responsible to operate and improve our modern cloud-native system landscape for Tool Service software applications.

What does the role involve?

  • Observability & Reliability Evangelism: Drive transparency in software systems by utilizing AWS cloud services and tools like Datadog to develop and maintain dashboards, alerts, logs, and performance monitoring systems.
  • Automation Pioneer: Lead efforts to eliminate manual tasks by automating approval IT operational tasks including workflows for GitLab pipelines and streamlining release management processes. Utilize task management tools like Jira to automate tracking, coordination, and streamline workflows. Develop and maintain automated monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems using AWS and Datadog. Leverage existing Kubernetes setups for monitoring, setting up automated alerts, dashboards, and incident response mechanisms to ensure system reliability.
  • Technical Leadership: Act as a key technical leader initiating and establishing reliability standards and procedures across projects.• Incident Management: Act as the main point of contact during major incidents for your application. Orchestrate the process to identify and solve issues quickly to avoid production disruptions. Decide the level of severity of events, manage incident responses, including communication of incidents and resolutions, participate in after-action reviews, and collaborate in root cause analysis.
  • Release Management: Maintain a checklist and guidelines on requirements for releasing software to the production environment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess risks associated with releases and ensure that all potential issues are identified and mitigated. Work closely with Quality Managers (QMs) to coordinate releases and deployments ensuring smooth processes. Implement continuous improvement practices for release management processes, ensuring that lessons learned from previous releases are incorporated into future releases.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Document and share best-practices around Observability, Resilience, and Incident, and Release Management priorities, strategies, and techniques within the organization.

What you need is:

  • B.S in Computer Science or equivalent experience required
  • 5+ years of experience contributing and reviewing source code in an application development role required
  • 5+ years of experience in one or more compiled languages required
  • 5+ years of experience in one or more scripting languages required
  • 5+ years of experience creating and managing Infrastructure-as-Code templates and/or scripts required
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with git branching strategies required
  • Outstanding expertise in deployment, integration, configuration management and fixing of issues for cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, and AWS required
  • Strong understanding of implementation and maintenance of modern distributed development tool chains (eg. Gitlab, JIRA) required
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills and high goal-oriented working methods required
  • Team player with very good communication skills in an agile interdisciplinary and international environment required
  • Up to 20% international travel, required
