What's the role?

You are a “sparring partner” of the Head of Procurement of the Business Unit Measuring Systems at Hilti Headquarters in Liechtenstein. Your three main areas of activity are project supply management (PSM) where you will be responsible for all procurement topics in TTM’s, category management for suppliers and dedicated category, as well as the creation and deployment of methods, procurement tools and strategies in and between our team and other departments.

What does the role involve?

The Strategic Category Manager acts as a real “Sparring partner” of the Head of Procurement. The scope of activities is broad and can touch different areas, such as the overall Business Unit’s supply footprint and presentations to Hilti’s Top management.The Strategic Category Manager is responsible for the Sourcing, Purchasing & Logistics deliverables for a product line (e.g. Distance Meters, Rotating Lasers….) and is part of the core team of this product line, meaning it heavily contributes to its strategy, product development and profitability. You manage selected commodities of components and services (e.g. metal parts) and/or directly sellable products (e.g. Accessories). The activities include category group strategies development, supplier relationship management, negotiations, Supply improvement projects together with different internal (e.g. Engineering and Manufacturing colleagues) and external stakeholders. By creating and implementing all activities through methods, tools, and strategies you improve how supply is managed in the Business Unit. An area we particularly look to improve is in the creation and implementation of cross-functional (e.g. with Engineering, Marketing, etc) category strategies, COGS improvement and implementation activities.

Our Business Unit Measuring is characterized by significant annual growth, complex footprints (e.g. multinational, partnerships with competitors and joint ventures), future technologies (e.g. robotics, software, reality capture) and very complex products with high precision (e.g. laser, optical and fine mechanics as well as electronics technologies). Our suppliers and development partners are global.

What you need is:

  • At least 3 years experiences in strategic procurement management, preferably in technical components with strong understanding of the industry
  • University master’s degree in engineering or related field is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in crafting and implementing strategies with limited information and by working with different stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading cost optimization and cross functional projects.
  • Proactive personality, open-minded, creative thinker yet pragmatic and hands-on with excellent communication skills at all levels in an organisation
  • You are fluent in English (verbally and written). Good knowledge of German or other languages is an asset.
