Intern or Thesis student – Structural Engineer for Mass Timber and/or Precast Concrete connections (m/f/x)

What's the role?

Together with the team, you will research and analyze Mass Timber and/or Precast Concrete building systems.
As an example, your role could be to come up with ways of optimizing, revolutionizing, or innovating those buildings through creating new connection concepts between structural elements. The ideation ultimately would lead
to a proof-of-concept prototype, which is tested in our lab to ensure it meets building specifications.

Flexible start date, according to the student's availability.
Duration between 6 and 12 months.

What does the role involve?

Join an interdisciplinary and international research team solving the challenges of tomorrow.

You’ll work closely with our experts and external network developing innovative connection concepts for Mass Timber and Precast Concrete building systems. Our goal is to enable a circular and more sustainable construction industry.

You can significantly contribute by working on different topics:

  • Analyze and iterate different building systems combining materials (e.g. concrete, steel, timber, etc) to assess carbon footprint and structural performance.
  • Ideate on new building systems and connections.
  • Define connection requirements.
  • Support the team defining lab test planning and execution.
  • Identify value proposition of your ideas.

What you need is:

  • Enrollment for the whole internship period in a Master’s program in Structural Engineering
  • Knowledge and practical experience in the field of Mass Timber and/or Precast Concrete construction is an advantage
  • Willingness and creativity in finding solutions for interdisciplinary technical challenges
  • Passion for innovation and research
  • A proactive approach and self-reliant personality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with good English skills.
